Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a communication/education process by which the conscious mind and the unconscious mind are brought into agreement. This is achieved by bypassing the critical faculty and allowing a shift in consciousness to occur. Once this is achieved, selective thinking is established and therapeutic change has begun.

How does it work?

All hypnotherapy works by uncovering the subconscious thought processes that have created the client's issues, and then reframing them into the positives that will provide solutions. The issues may be linked to a direct cause, or they may be linked to a combination of different causes which may need to be worked on separately.

Hypnotherapy can alleviate distress and create new pathways of subconscious thought and subsequent behaviour. Sessions are tailored to the individual needs of the client, as we discover how your unique personality traits have both created the issues and in turn how they can facilitate the healing process.

What does it feel like?

Hypnotherapy is a relaxed state of focused awareness. As you go into a trance you will feel your body relax and your mind let go of all tension and stress, but you will remain responsive and will be able to hear and react as you chose throughout the experience. As you begin to relax into a trance you will feel a sensation that is very much like the feeling of comfort you get right before you drift into sleep.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Hypnosis is a natural state of being and as such most people can be hypnotised. All that is required is the ability to follow instructions. This powerful yet gentle tool can be used to assist anyone aged 8 and onwards.

How deep into trance will I go?

There are three main depths of trance:
Light trance – body relaxed, where your hearing can expand top hear all the sounds around you;
Medium trance – body relaxed, where you listen only to the sound of my voice;
Deep trance – the most profound level of relaxation, where you are unconcerned about sounds around you or on focusing on any one thought.
You will naturally go to the level of trance that is optimal for you to achieve the results you want.

What is NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING?

Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) is a form of language-based counselling which can assist you in defining your goals and reframing your thought processes. It is based on a study of how we think, how we speak and how we act. It is focused on self-development and change and is a highly effective means of achieving goals.

How many sessions will I need?

It all depends on the goal that you have set yourself and on how quickly you want to change. In our initial consultation, lasting 90 minutes or more, I will take a comprehensive case history and work with you to pin point exactly what your goals are and what stops you from achieving them. Many of my clients have found that one session is sufficient to unlock their potential and achieve the goal they want. Others have found that it took up to four sessions to completely achieve their goal.

Is Hypnotherapy the same as stage hypnotism?

Stage hypnotists are performers. Their goal is to entertain their audience. My goal as a fully qualified hypnotherapist is to facilitate therapeutic change in accordance with your goals. It is important to be aware that you will never do anything against your own will or morals. My practice is conducted in accordance with the NSW Health Care Commission Code of Conduct, and as a member of The Australian Hypnotherapy Association (A.H.A) and the The International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association (I.M.D.H.A) I am bound by a strict code of ethics.
